What are the requirements to drive for KMS Express?
You must have a valid CDL-A, a Hazmat endorsement, be 23 years or older, and have at least 2 years of OTR (over-the-road) driving experience. We also review your PSP and MVR records: no more than 3 moving violations and no more than 2 at-fault accidents within the past 3 years.
Do I need a Tanker or HazMat endorsement to apply?
Yes, a HazMat endorsement is required for this position. Drivers with the right endorsements can qualify for higher pay opportunities. If you don’t have your HazMat endorsement yet, we encourage you to work toward getting it.
I'm on SAP or had a violation in the past, can I still apply?
Yes. KMS Express is SAP-friendly and works with drivers completing or who have completed their Return-to-Duty process. We understand not every driver has a perfect record.
Do you accept drivers with a DUI?
No. Due to safety, insurance, and reputation standards, we're unable to accept applicants with a DUI conviction, regardless of endorsements or experience.
How much can I earn?
Pay ranges from $0.60 to $0.80 per mile (all miles paid, loaded and empty) depending on endorsements, SAP status, and driving record. On top of that, we pay $150 for detention/layover, breakdown time, short miles, and a $1,500 referral bonus after 6 weeks.
When and how do I get paid?
Pay day is every Friday, for the pay period running Monday to Monday. This is a 1099 position.
How many miles will I run per week?
Drivers typically run 2,700–3,300 miles per week (about 500 miles/day), with RECAP available. Most loads are live load/live unload, with about 20% drop and hook. We don't run into NYC or the Bronx.
What equipment will I be driving?
You'll drive newer Freightliner, Peterbilt, International, or Volvo trucks (2023–2026 models) with modern dry van trailers, fully equipped and governed at 68-69 mph.
How much home time do I get?
Typically 3 weeks out with 4–5 days home (Florida routes run 4–5 weeks out with 5–6 days home). You can drive your truck home or fly. Transportation is covered when needed.
Can I bring a passenger or pet?
Yes, passengers 18 years or older and pets are both welcome on the road with you.
